Gao Yingpu’s work is a reflection of the highly landscaped and symbolic social daily life in contemporary urban society. In this process, the fluidity of identity and the uncertainty of relationship have become eternal subjects of exploration.

When constructing the narrative structure of paintings, the artist often intercepts highly symbolic and personal objects as visual elements. The permutations and combinations of different objects reflect the identity desires of users and owners. Electronic watches, nail art, Marlboro, Zhongnanhai, Snickers… the shapes of these specific objects often show the characteristics of advertising pictures in Gao Yingpu’s works: bright colors, prominent parts, and if necessary, attach several guiding text slogans , Implying the fun and spiritual portrait of the petty bourgeoisie: glamorous on the outside, but nothing on the inside. Choosing ordinary objects, on the one hand, is to stimulate the viewer’s resonance, and on the other hand, this kind of viewing also creates a subtle cognitive gap due to the close-up perspective adopted by the artist. The magnified parts of human faces and objects strongly imply a certain presence, but also hint at the fictionality of the depicted objects because of some small differences.

The carnival is not always carried out during the day, because the dark night grants immunity to restlessness and restlessness, making the latter continue to stir people’s hearts like a virus. Against the background of dark colors, the urban beauties decorated by flowers, famous watches, and luxury goods have a cynical and alienated look on their faces, and ambiguously offer some kind of invitation: join this intoxicating night, but don’t be overly addicted.
