Gene Gallery is delighted to announce the group exhibition “Outpost” by artists Liao Xiaozhou, Lou Yezi and Yang Yifan, which is from December 7, 2024, to January 18, 2025.
Amid the sweeping economic transformations and cultural waves of the 1990s and early 2000s, the post-90s generation, now entering adulthood, has experienced an ongoing reshaping and fracturing of identity, with memories gradually being blurred and elusive over time. In the fast-paced and multifaceted information age, feelings of unease, confusion, and loneliness seem to have taken root in their inner worlds, intertwining with aspirations for the future to form a distinctive generational imprint of this era.
In this exhibition, three artists—participants and witnesses of this era—ingeniously combine their personal experiences with broader social contexts to present a narrative that transcends generational boundaries. Through distinctive mediums and aesthetic languages, their works delve deeply into and reveal latent experiences of trauma. These experiences may stem from childhood or the epochal upheavals of their time, yet they often inadvertently triggered by external events, eliciting a profound sense of psychological resonance and reflection.
