Wang Hua’s sculptures and installations twist, wrap and weave to map the relationship between the 'body' and its immediate surroundings here and now. She has long been concerned with the existence of the 'body' and its historical situation and location, using both durational and non-stationary materials in parallel to explore the constructed nature of the 'body'. In this solo exhibition, Wang focuses on the state of 'intertwining' between 'bodies', discussing how the 'body' in this complex relationship becomes a medium of perception and tends to disintegrate the distinction between 'inside' and 'outside'. These works are full of metaphorical episodes and imagery, and Wang's paintings provide a further decentering of the body by incorporating ambiguous figurative narratives within an explicitly abstract language.
