SOPHIE SCHAGERL

An independent artist and translator with a cross-cultural and multilingual background, having studied Chinese, German language and literature, and painting in Vienna, Taipei, and Beijing, respectively. Working across linguistics, humanistic inquiry, and visual art, her creative logic emphasises the relationships between text, symbol, emotion, and cultural context. Her artistic perspective carries a distinct quality of “cross-cultural observation” — rethinking identity, memory, and everyday perception through the tension between the outsider gaze and lived, local experience.  Grounded in linguistic experience and cross-cultural sensibility, her artistic expression is not merely a conversion between languages, but an act of reconstructing meaning, marked by a strong literary, narrative, and conceptual character.
